I have already repaired a lot of Sennheiser HD 202 headphones. Unfortunately, the textile leather-coated ear cushions are not very durable. The synthetic leather coating has already worn off, the photo shows the supporting layer of the synthetic leather. The pieces of the aging artificial leather can be picked off (for those who have the patience), because the ear cushion will still be usable for a while. Over time, however, this material also gets dirty, and the inner sponge crumbles. Aftermarket earpads for this headphone are available in our webshop.
Earpad attachment
The earpad has a plastic insert with a hole in the middle. On each side of the headphones, there are 4 pieces of outward-facing fastening pegs, which clamp this insert from the inside, and there are two vertically placed pegs that adjust the direction. The plastic insert must be transferred from the old earpad, because it is the only way to snap the new ear cushion into place. The replacement of the earpad is done by hand, no tools are needed.
Removing the old earpads
Take one half of the headphones in your hands. Press your other palm onto the earpad, and with your fingers gently stretch the edge of the earpad upwards at one tip. Snap off the earpad together with the plastic insert.
Blow the dirt out of the headphone speaker with compressed air or a compressor. Take out the plastic insert from the old earpad and clean it.
Putting on the new earpad
It is important to place the insert with the dust cover facing out into the new earpad (as it was originally), as the two sides are different. Take the new earpad in your hands, with the back facing you. Insert the insert under the rim on one side. From below, reach into the center of the earpad with your index finger and pull it outwards in a circular motion so that the edge of the earpad also touches the insert on the other side. Place the earpad on the headphones, align it in place and press it after the two vertical pegs are in place.
