A relatively large number of Sennheiser HD 201 headphones are brought to the service center for repair. As a rule, the outer covering of the cable ages and crumbles. In such a case, the headphones can be repaired by replacing the entire cable.
The leatherette coating on the earpads also wears out after a few years, cracks and wears off. Aftermarket earpads for this headphone are available in our webshop.
Earpad attachment
This earpad has a thin base made of plastic. The headphones have 12 inward-facing studs on each side. The base of the earpad must be inserted under the balls. The replacement of the earpad is done by hand, no tools are needed. Make sure that the fixing pins do not break.
Removing the old earpads
Take one half of the headphones in your hands. With your index finger and thumb, squeeze the sides of the earpad so that the index finger is in the middle of the earpad and the thumb is outside. We first pull the earpad inward so that the sole on that side comes out from under the fixing pegs. Afterwards, pull the earpad outwards to pull out the base from under the fixing pegs on the opposite side.
Blow the dirt out of the headphone speaker with compressed air or a compressor.
Putting on the new earpad
Slide the base of the earpad under the studs on one side, then go around on the other side and snap the sole of the earpad under the studs one by one. The last one is the most difficult, because as we go, the sole of the earpad tightens more and more into place. Since the pegs are located in a circle, they do not allow the earpad to move in any direction.
